Welcome to Sediment Dynamics Lab (SDL) in the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences of the College of Coast and Environment at LSU.

SDL is located at 2162 Energy, Coast and Environment Building of LSU campus. The research of SDL centers on the flux and fate of fluvial sediment from the land to the ocean. Specifically, the studies are focused on the understanding of how climatic and anthropogenic forcings impact a river’s sediment discharge from its drainage basin, how sediment is transported by physical oceanographic processes (e.g., waves and currents), and how it is ultimately preserved in deltas, estuaries, continental shelves and deeper water.

The research of SDL includes geological oceanography, coastal morphodynamics, observation and numerical modeling of sediment transport, sediment dynamics of bottom boundary layer, sedimentary geology, and coastal processes.
