MER's Education Outreach Program

The Marine Environmental Researchers participate in a variety of educational outreach programs.  We enjoy talking to students and teachers about our research and discussing topics related to the marine environment.  These events include but are not limited to:

1.   Ocean Commotion

This is an annual fall event sponsored by Louisiana Sea Grant.  For over ten years we have developed an interactive exhibit to teach students about the ocean

2.  Science Fair Judge

Each year science fairs across Louisiana need judges to critique science fair projects. The graduate students of MER actively participate in these fairs. 

 3.  School Visitation

In the past we have visited schools (K-12) to talk about careers in oceanography and coastal sciences, to teach about essential oceanography principles (e.g. food webs) and we have participated in job fairs to educate young people about the science field.  Many of the school visitations occur because teachers request us to visit there school.
